Why social morality matters!

There is a reason why moral codes of conduct came into being in a society. That reason is that morality acts a rope which restricts the reach of our baser instincts and excessive indulgences. Excess of any kind is destructive and annihilating for the soul. To protect a person from reaching this stage, there are moral boundaries which makes him think several times before he steps for excess.

I used to be in the rebellion camp and sort of a supporter for the hippie cause and the freedom to do whatever one wants. But thinking about the necessity of morality, I have been moved to accept the other viewpoint now instead. Now I believe that there be a flexible but existent moral framework under which a given society functions.

Guess that is the threshold I needed to cross for going from being young to being middle aged?
