The Brain!

I spent the last evening watching a documnetary on the human mind and it rekindled the fascination I had for the human brain. Just imagine, I am astonished ( which is an activity controlled by the brain) to see how the brain works…:) pretty interesting ain’t it? Off course! There is such a curiosity to know what exactly happens inside there. I believe that is one of the main reasons for all of us(science people) behind getting into the science stream because we were interested in finding out how things work.

Come to think of it i have seen my natural curiosity dying with the years that i have been in college. This is very strange because here we are supposed to learn so many things that there should be a high shoot up in the levels of curiosity but sadly it is going down :(. I blame this to the fact that we are supposed to study and do well in those subjects too which we despise the most. And to the fact that I am very very bad at taking orders and that I would not do a thing which i don’t truly like. Well, interestingly again , all this is again controlled by the brain. What makes mine differ from others? Why is it that some people can do things that they dont like while I cannot. It is Intense!

Today’s Computer Science’s one of the frontrunner research fields is Artificial Intelligence which tries to simulate the human brain. I wonder will we able to decode it all? And if we do what will happen next? We would have breached the walls of the supreme controller of our actions and others’-our brain. What will be the consequences? Will it be possible to modify it? Will it be possible to recreate it altogether? Te questions are endless and so are the possibilities. The time to come will give few answers also if not all. But between all this my curiosity to know what controls me and how it does it remains intact and I am now going to read to get some of my answers!

Best Wishes!

Power of the Present!

I just finished reading this article from the economic times which set me thinking seriously about the way in which I view the things. The link is : http://economictimes.indiatimes.com/articleshow/msid-726365,curpg-1.cms

Suddenly he realized he had come to a dead end; the edge of a cliff. Looking around he saw a vine growing and quickly grabbed it, lowering himself down the cliff-face. Below him he heard a river, but…looking closer… he saw crocodiles everywhere! It seemed he was doomed. Also, to make matters even worse there was now a tiny mouse gnawing at the vine… It is said that at this very moment, the young monk noticed a small fruit growing beside him; he carefully picked it and ate it…

With this simple act he became enlightened. The story goes that this was the most blissful moment, the most defining moment of his whole life. Why???

This little story is ancient and has many versions and even more interpretations. I think that as the monk was in such danger, in such desperation, possibly just about to die…his mind just stopped. His thinking just stopped. With this he found himself, probably for the first time in his life, in the paradise of the present moment — The holy “Here’n’Now”.

They say in the East that eternity can only be found in the here and now and to discover this is to become enlightened. I like to think that with this simple little act, the monk had a glimpse of the timeless. He touched God.

In short, he found everything he’d ever been searching for. …and after an experience like that, what happened to him would hardly have mattered!!

The story is about how the thing that one should be relly worried about is the present and not the future or the past. At the point in life where i stand this article seems to be a godsend and conveys the thing which has been the most wrong with me. I am totally a person of the future. I forget the past easily but what I cannot stop contemplating about is the future…how things will be, what will I be doing, where should i go..etc What I finally end up with these futuristic thoughts is a messed up present. This is so true!! I am surprised at not having woken up to this fact all my life till now. Though there have been subtle hints but they had not hit me as hard as this article.

Management gurus and sportspeople call it the success manta — “HereNnow”  ..why not? It seems to be and now when I look around I see that the people who are more successful( or lets say happier ) are the ones that live in the present.

That is one important lesson learnt for whole of my life i hope.

So Live now!!

Heya!

Hello Reader!

When the ears are absent but there are keys on the keyboard, when the speech vanishes but there are thoughts unheard and when you think of something you want to share ..with the world, with the people around you and with yourself…there’s a blog. It may be an opinion on a public issue or a new way of thinking, it might be frivolous gossip or a deep contemplation, it may be well said or horribly written but a blog bears it all. And I would exploit this free space given to me to write all the rubbish that I want the world to see and read. Hopefully,at least someone sometime will be an audience.

Thats all for the start of another blog. Rest coming soon!

All the previous posts are from the blog that I maintained earlier but somehow got fed up..however, as I could not delete my posts I imported them all here!
